A'PEXi Smart Accel Controller

Advanced Electronic Throttle Response Control

The A'PEXi Smart Accel Controller allows you to customise your vehicle's electronic throttle response to suit different driving conditions and preferences.

Using a compact illuminated control switch, the driver can select between 7 different throttle modes, ranging from gentle economy-focused response through to sharper, more immediate acceleration.

Unlike a power modification, the Smart Accel Controller changes the relationship between accelerator pedal input and electronic throttle opening, allowing the vehicle to feel smoother, more responsive or more progressive depending on the selected mode.

Key Features

• 7 selectable throttle response modes
• Gentle / Eco modes for smoother acceleration
• Low Throttle Mode for more progressive pedal response
• Boost Modes for sharper initial throttle response
• High Throttle Mode for increased response throughout the pedal range
• Compact single-button controller
• 7-colour LED illumination indicates the selected mode
• Automatically returns to Normal Mode when reverse gear is selected for added safety
• Designed for electronic drive-by-wire throttle vehicles

7 Throttle Modes

Gentle Mode 1–3

Designed to provide smoother acceleration and assist with economical driving.

Throttle opening is reduced during initial acceleration and sudden pedal inputs, making the vehicle easier to drive smoothly.

The three levels provide progressively different levels of throttle control depending on the driver's preference.

Low Throttle Mode

Reduces throttle output throughout most of the accelerator pedal range compared with Normal Mode.

This provides finer throttle control and a more progressive response, particularly useful in traffic, slippery conditions or whenever smoother acceleration is preferred.

At full accelerator input, throttle output is equivalent to Normal Mode.

Boost Mode 1–2

Provides increased throttle opening during initial accelerator input, giving the vehicle a sharper and more immediate response.

Boost Mode 2 provides a stronger response than Boost Mode 1.

IMPORTANT: "Boost" does not refer to turbocharger boost or increased engine boost pressure. It refers specifically to increased electronic throttle response.

High Throttle Mode

Provides a higher throttle output across the accelerator pedal range compared with Normal Mode, creating a more aggressive and responsive pedal feel.

At full throttle, output is equivalent to Normal Mode.

How Does It Work?

The A'PEXi Smart Accel Controller does not increase engine horsepower.

Instead, it modifies the relationship between accelerator pedal input and electronic throttle opening.

For the same amount of accelerator pedal input:

Gentle / Low Mode = Reduced throttle response
Normal Mode = Standard factory throttle response
Boost / High Mode = Increased throttle response

This allows the driver to significantly change how responsive the vehicle feels without modifying the engine itself.

Gentle Acceleration & Eco Driving

A'PEXi developed the Gentle Modes to encourage smoother initial acceleration and assist with economical driving.

By controlling throttle opening during take-off and sudden accelerator inputs, the system helps reduce unnecessary throttle application while providing smoother and easier-to-control acceleration.

According to the eco-driving information referenced by A'PEXi, gentle acceleration techniques may contribute to approximately 10% lower fuel consumption under suitable driving conditions.

Reverse Safety Function

When reverse gear is detected, the Smart Accel Controller automatically returns the throttle response to Normal Mode.

This prevents an aggressive throttle setting from being unexpectedly applied while reversing and provides an additional level of safety during low-speed manoeuvring.
